Electricity & Circuits Workshop (Y4-Y6/P5-P7)
Description:
Our Electricity & Circuits workshop will introduce children to electricity by interacting with and building Snap Circuits. We use Snap Circuits to teach basic engineering, electronics and circuitry concepts by building and assembling electronic circuits on a simple “rows-and-columns” base grid.
The hands-on challenges we set the children can include anything from the use of resistors (various ohms), alarms, speakers, buzzers, switches (buttons and sliders), motors, fans and more!
All our workshops are run by experienced instructors, and we can tailor sessions to include all children, including those with SEN, so that the children can access all activities. When you make any additional needs of your group known, our team can explain how they can encourage, support, and motivate each and every child.
Workshop Aims:
For children to learn and understand what electricity is
Practical application of circuit building
Hands on understanding of cause and effect
Tech we use:
Snap Circuits
Van de Graaff Generator (upon request)
Makey Makey
iPads
Standard Format:
2 sessions per day (approx 2-2.5hrs each). Up to 34 students per session working in pairs.
Students will produce an eBook documenting their learning journey which can be shared with schools for evidence. The eBook will show students’ circuit drawings, predictions and findings, plus photo and video evidence.
Access to a screen/projector required for modelling.
Can be delivered in the classroom.
Taster Experience Format:
3 sessions per day (approx 90 mins each) with up to 50 students working in threes
