National Coding Week 2024

National Coding Week has been going for 11 years now, set up to encourage people of all ages to learn coding and digital skills, and to help break down barriers to digital literacy.

The initiative was started in by Richard Rolfe and Jordan Love to help people learn coding in a rapidly changing world. They wanted to:

  • To address the growing demand for digital skills

  • To make technology more accessible

  • To promote coding as a valuable skill

  • To foster inclusivity

  • To bridge the digital divide

The initiative aims to make technology more accessible to everyone, regardless of age or experience, to promote coding as a valuable skill that can benefit everyone in all aspects of their lives. Schools and institutions across the UK will use this week to open doors to new opportunities with the aim to help bridge the digital divide - empowering people of all ages to learn coding and other digital skills.

This year’s event commences on the 16th of September, with the primary theme centred around Artificial Intelligence (AI). This focus on AI aims to highlight its growing significance in various sectors and underscore the need for a broader understanding and proficiency in this cutting-edge technology.

The importance of coding skills in today’s environment can’t be underestimated. Whether it’s developing apps, designing websites, analysing data, or automating tasks, coding is at the heart of many technological innovations. National Coding Week provides an excellent opportunity for individuals and schools to dip their toes into the world of coding and discover the possibilities it offers.
