Introduction to Hyett Education and our Blog

Hi readers,

Welcome to the first blog post on Hyett Education.

Before dishing out the good stuff, I thought it best that I introduce myself and tell you a little about my experience in education and how I might be able to pass on some of what I’ve learnt as a specialist Computing teacher to you, the reader.

I am a qualified primary school teacher and former eLearning Coordinator with experience of working with children in KS1, KS2 and KS3, as well as EAL and SEND pupils. I have a real passion for the subject of Computing, which hopefully, I have been able to convey to the thousands of children I have taught over the years.

After leaving the classroom, I took the opportunity to join the Learning Technologies Team (City of Wolverhampton Council) as a Learning Technologies Consultant, working with highly-skilled colleagues to deliver CPD and support to teachers and senior leaders in primary schools and special schools across the city. Here, I had the benefit of learning from my expert colleagues and working with hundreds of teachers in the training room and thousands of students in the classroom.

My wife, Phillipa, is also committed to education and is an Assistant Headteacher at an Outstanding primary school in Wolverhampton. Phillipa is highly commended amongst her peers and has a wealth of experience mentoring teachers (including students). She has also used her expertise to provide support and training to struggling schools in the local area.

Now, we're embarking on a new adventure. Hyett Education will be offering strategic consultancy to schools, in-class support and CPD for teachers, workshops for children and blogs that will be useful for school leaders, class teachers and Computing enthusiasts.

Future blogs on Hyett Education will:

  • Keep you up-to-date with all the latest technologies being used effectively in schools to support teaching and learning

  • Provide ideas for developing a cross-curricular approach to eLearning and Computing

  • Offer guidance around online safety

  • Present ‘how to’ tutorials for using useful software and hardware

  • Share lesson ideas for engaging learners in new and exciting ways across the curriculum

  • Distribute guest blogs from educators sharing their own experiences of using technology as a learning support tool

I hope to learn from fellow educators as much as they might learn from me so please feel free to get in touch to share your thoughts and ideas.

Happy teaching!
