A Fun-Filled Day with West Bromwich Albion: Robotics Meets Football

This week, a few of our team headed over to the famous Hawthawns Stadium to be part of the Premier League Primary Stars National Girls - Regional Qualifier.

We had the pleasure of spending a day at the West Bromwich Albion Academy Dome, where 10 local girls football teams were competing. The atmosphere was electric, and the teams competing showcased their amaing football skills… but that wasn’t all – we had a little surprise hidden for the girls behind the scenes.

Had our photo taken with the Baggie Bird!

In between matches, each girls football team joined us for an interactive robotics session, where they got to code their very own sports robot. The goal? To program their robots to score from a specific point on our football-themed mats. It was a beautiful fusion of technology and sport that brought out the creativity and problem-solving skills of all the future sport stars.

The highlight of the session was seeing the girls get so excited by the challenges we set. They had the chance to code their robots to take on different footballing positions such as center forward or center midfield. The task was not as simple as it sounded – they had to carefully add a “shoot” into their algorithm, ensuring their robot could take aim and score as many goals as possible. It was a great opportunity for them to combine their love for football with coding, pushing their skills to new limits.

By the end of the day, the girls were not only excited about the games they’d played but also proud of the robots they had programmed. It was an unforgettable experience that brought together sport, technology, and fun in the best way possible.

At Hyett Education, we believe in inspiring the next generation to get excited about STEM, and this event at WBA Academy Dome was a perfect example of how coding and robotics can be both educational and enjoyable.

Stay tuned for more exciting events and collaborations that bring learning to life!
